BigCommerce, a leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) eCommerce platform, has collaborated with BitPay and CoinPayments to enable merchants to accept bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, according to a press release on Thursday, September 15.
BigCommerce, like Shopify, enables businesses to establish their own eCommerce sites with an easy-to-use setup and partner connectors. This business model already supports over 60,000 retailers worldwide, and each of them may now take cryptocurrency as payment.
“Expanding our crypto ecosystem to include trusted partners is just one step towards driving innovation and growth for our merchants,” said Marc Ostryniec, chief sales officer at BigCommerce.
“A new era of consumers are passionate about transacting using crypto, and we’re helping them do it. Merchants embracing this new technology can remain relevant and maintain a cutting edge as the world of payments continues to shift to digital currency,” he added.
BigCommerce emphasizes the benefits that retailers will receive from taking bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. For starters, alternative payment options expose merchants to a larger audience. Additionally, retailers will see decreased fees, lowering their company running costs. Furthermore, with the partners BigCommerce has chosen, the eCommerce platform allows merchants to govern their wallets, reducing the possibility of false chargebacks.
The payment interfaces supplied by the two bitcoin infrastructure providers will be available to merchants of all sizes. BitPay payment gateway enables merchants to accept cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), Litecoin (LTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Shiba Inu (SHIB), XRP (XRP) and 5 USD-pegged stablecoins (BUSD, DAI, GUSD, USDC, and USDP).
“Accepting cryptocurrency can be intimidating and complex, with, at times, a learning curve. We’ve teamed with BigCommerce to help minimize the lift for merchants to add crypto as a payment option alongside their existing payment methods in just a few clicks,” said BitPay CEO Stephen Pair.
CoinPayments is a crypto payment gateway that allows merchants to accept real-time payments from over 100 cryptocurrencies.
“Amidst an increase in demand worldwide for alternative payment solutions, our partnership with BigCommerce provides merchants of all sizes with a trusted, streamlined, and scalable solution to accept cryptocurrency payments,” said Kalin Kalinov, chief marketing officer of CoinPayments.
Because it appeals to digitally aware clients, cryptocurrency is an excellent supplement to eCommerce. It provides them with a quick, simple, and safe option to buy items and services online. Many stores accept bitcoins because they provide a convenient alternative to standard payment methods.
